The Role | Te tūnga

Ipsos engages Independent Contractors to conduct telephone surveys from their own home. We are seeking people who enjoy speaking with others and who want the flexibility to manage their own working patterns. In this role, you will contact selected individuals across New Zealand and invite them to share their views on topics that help inform decisions made by government agencies, charities, and other organisations.

A Day in the Life | He rā i roto i tōku ao

You decide when you work and how you organise your schedule. Many contractors appreciate the ability to balance survey work with other commitments while operating from a quiet space at home.

Your role involves contacting selected individuals and conducting structured survey interviews. Although people may not be expecting your call, a friendly approach and familiarity with the survey script help to guide the conversation. Each completed survey contributes to a better understanding of public experiences, shaping policies and initiatives nationwide.

Interviewers often value the sense of contribution that comes from supporting research used to inform meaningful decisions.

Skills required:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Confidence talking with people over the phone
  • Resilience and the ability to handle a wide variety of situations
  • A positive attitude and strong personal drive
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work independently with effective time management
  • Reliability, professionalism, and integrity
  • Confidence using computers and electronic devices to record data
Practical requirements:

  • Willingness to operate as a self-employed Independent Contractor
  • A laptop or PC running Windows 11 or above, with a working camera for virtual briefings
  • A compatible USB headset with microphone
  • Stable, reliable home internet
  • A quiet, private workspace suitable for telephone interviewing
